General information:

Girona’s Science and Technology Park, the technology “pool” ofGirona region.

The Science and Technological Park of the University of Girona, set up as a non-profit foundation, is the main agent of promotion and economic development in the region of Girona. It’s based on research, knowledge and technology, contributing to the attraction, creation and development of companies, spin-offs and highly innovative start-ups, related to R&D and closely related with the University of Girona. It promotes the transfer of knowledge and generates support structures for innovation. It encourages interaction and relation between these agents and the ecosystem and promotes the connection between the environment and local agents.

The Science and Technology Park of the University of Girona was first conceived at the end of the 90s. The idea first emerged between 1998 and 1999. The Rector of the time, Josep M. Nadal and the President of the Social Committee JaumeCasademont were looking for closer links between the University and its region. These ideas were finally given shape in an initial proposal drafted at the end of 1998. On December 28th of 2001 the ParcCientífic Foundation was set up. 2004 saw the first building go up, the JaumeCasademont, to be followed by the Submarine Robotics Centre (2004), the New Food Technologies Centre (2005), the Business Centre (2006) and the Catalan Institute for Water Research (2007).
